Visions of Byron and the Northern Rivers - was conceived, filmed, edited and produced by Japetus to compliment his inspiring, ambient music catalogue. Japetus has been creating ambient new age soundspaces since 1983 and has released 13 albums and 2 compilations. You can watch an excerpt below and order DVDs at www.ByronDVD.com.
In the late 80's Japetus created a nature video Visions of Paradise to go with his best loved album of the same name and it was very well received by both counselors and media.
It was used for general stress reduction, in Women's health centres to treat rape crisis victims, in funeral directors to comfort the bereaved and in doctor's and dentist's waiting rooms. The original footage was also synchronised with the music of Midnight Oil and used by the Australian Conservation Foundation in a very successful TV campaign for new members.
However, that footage was not digital and not of a high enough quality to be used on DVD with 21st century technology and was discarded.
In 1998 Japetus moved to Byron Bay and with so much superb nature around, he began thinking about a new nature video, only this time to make a special Byron-centric version. This new production, like the first, was to be of nature in its purest, healing form containing little or no signs of human intervention except for scenes of the light house.
Working under such tight criteria, the video was shot over the course of 2007. Often it required waiting for hours until people left the scene and having to go back several times to each spot until just the right scene could be recorded of a location.
The Visionary Journeys ambient music catalogue lends itself perfectly to this type of imagery and as the journey unfolds you get a real sense of healing and transformation. The beauty of the region really shines through. The result is a magnificent local video postcard that captures the magical essence of the natural Byron without the crowds, almost in its original state.
